Studies on strigolactone BC-ring formation: Chemical conversion of an 18-hydroxycarlactonoate derivative into racemic 4-deoxyorobanchol/5-deoxystrigol via the acid-mediated cascade cyclization

Nanami Shiotani et al.

Summary: In this study, the chemical conversion of an 18-hydroxycarlactonoate derivative into racemic 4-deoxyorobanchol/5-deoxystrigol was achieved by the acid-mediated cascade cyclization, offering a potentially inspiring suggestion for the currently unclear BC-ring formation in strigolactone biosynthesis.

Allelopathic Activity of Strigolactones on the Germination of Parasitic Plants and Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Growth

Francisco J. Soto-Cruz et al.

Summary: Strigolactones (SLs) are a prime example of allelochemicals that affect the germination of parasitic plants and the growth of symbiotic arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. Research on SLs is complex but shows great potential for agricultural applications.

Efficiency and bioavailability of new synthetic strigolactone mimics with potential for sustainable agronomical applications

Lorenzo Borghi et al.

Summary: Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) play a crucial role in agriculture by enhancing plant resilience against various stresses. This study explored the use of synthetic SL derivatives to improve hyphal branching of Gigaspora spp AMF under laboratory conditions. Results showed structural enhancements in some derivatives promoted hyphal branching at equal or higher levels compared to natural SLs. The findings suggest a targeted chemical design approach could lead to new SL derivatives that enhance mycorrhization and potentially increase bioavailability compared to natural SLs, offering innovative strategies for sustainable agriculture.
