Volatile Organic Compound from Trichoderma asperelloides TSU1: Impact on Plant Pathogenic Fungi

On-Uma Ruangwong et al.

Summary: In this study, a soil fungus Trichoderma asperelloides TSU1 was isolated from flamingo flower cultivated soil and demonstrated to exhibit antifungal activity by producing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that inhibit the growth of fungal pathogens. Through solid-phase microextraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis, it was found that the VOCs of T. asperelloides TSU1 contained compounds like fluoro(trinitro)methane and 2-phenylethanol, which showed significant antifungal properties. This research highlights the potential of T. asperelloides TSU1 as a biocontrol agent for plant diseases through the production of VOCs.
