Threshold Heat-Flux Reduction by Near-Resonant Energy Transfer

P. W. Terry et al.

Summary: Transfer of energy near resonance to large-scale stable modes reduces transport above the linear critical gradient, contributing to the onset of transport at higher gradients. The suppression of heat flux above the critical gradient is enforced by resonance in the triplet correlation time, resulting from the interaction of the unstable mode, zonal flow, and stable mode.

Nonlocal effects in negative triangularity TCV plasmas

G. Merlo et al.

Summary: Global gradient driven gyrokinetic simulations using the GENE code were used to study Tokamak plasmas with negative triangularity. It was found that negative triangularity can improve electron energy confinement and reduce electron density fluctuations, with nonlocal effects playing a role in heat flux estimation. Despite the sensitivity of turbulence level to input parameters, global effects are crucial in reconciling simulations and experiments.

Impact of shaping on microstability in high-performance tokamak plasmas

O. Beeke et al.

Summary: The study shows that minimizing elongation can reduce turbulent outwards radial fluxes in high-performance plasmas, but increased elongation at high β can degrade local magnetic shear stabilization. Electromagnetic studies indicate that increased shaping stabilizes kinetic ballooning modes due to enhanced sensitivity to FLR effects.

Predicting the critical gradient of ITG turbulence in fusion plasmas

M. J. Pueschel et al.

Summary: The improved quasilinear model accurately predicts transport in fusion devices, especially in zonal-flow-saturated turbulence regimes. The modification tracks changes in saturation efficiency using frequency mismatch between interacting modes, rapidly increasing the efficacy of nonlinearity. This model also yields significantly improved predictions for trapped-electron-mode transport.
