URANS simulations for a free-running container ship: Part 1. Turning-circle

Dong-Hwan Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, incompressible unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) simulations were carried out for a free-running container ship in maneuvering conditions, validating trajectory, motions, and propeller performances under different turning scenarios. The balance between local and inertial forces was analyzed to quantify the centrifugal force during steady-state turning. Furthermore, correlations between propeller inflow and performance were investigated to understand differences in propeller performances during portside and starboard turning.

Comparative study on the prediction of speed-power-rpm of the KVLCC2 in regular head waves using model tests

Jin-Won Yu et al.

Summary: This paper predicts the relationship between speed, power, and rpm in regular head waves using various indirect methods, and evaluates the methods by comparing the results with resistance and self-propulsion tests conducted in calm water and in waves.
