Experimental study of pre-chamber jet ignition in a rapid compression machine and single-cylinder natural gas engine

Fubai Li et al.

Summary: Pre-chamber jet ignition is a promising combustion technology for achieving fast combustion in natural gas engines, exhibiting two distinct ignition patterns depending on the orifice diameter. The experimental results showed an increase in indicated thermal efficiency by 0.8%-1.4% and lower total hydrocarbon and CO emissions with higher NOx emissions with pre-chamber jet ignition due to faster burning velocity and higher combustion temperature.

Summary: An analysis of a three-dimensional direct numerical simulation database of an open turbulent jet spray flame has revealed significant interactions between turbulence, droplet evaporation, and chemistry, which influence the topological nature of the flame surface. The study highlights the importance of flame surface topology on modeling approaches for turbulent spray flames.
