Unsteady Numerical Simulation in a Supersonic Compressor Cascade with a Strong Shock Wave

Shaowen Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that Large Eddy Simulation can capture important details of shock wave boundary layer interaction in supersonic compressor cascades, aiding in understanding flow field characteristics. Shock wave boundary layer interaction is not only the main source of losses in compressor cascades, but also a major cause of flow unsteadiness.

Effects of surface roughness on the aerodynamic performance of a high subsonic compressor airfoil at low Reynolds number

Mingyang Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of surface roughness on the profile loss of a high subsonic compressor airfoil at low Reynolds number through numerical simulations. Results show that surface roughness mainly affects the loss generation process by influencing the structure of the Laminar Separation Bubble (LSB) and turbulence near the wall. The study highlights the importance of balancing the effects of roughness on suppressing LSB and inducing strong turbulent dissipation to reduce profile loss effectively.

Effect of Boundary Layer Suction on the Corner Separation in a Highly Loaded Axial Compressor Cascade

Tian Liang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effectiveness and mechanisms of boundary layer suction in controlling the corner separation of a highly loaded axial compressor cascade. Full-span suction scheme on the suction surface not only eliminated the separation of the boundary layer in the middle of the blade but also significantly improved the flow uniformity near the end-wall.Combined suction schemes with one spanwise slot on the suction surface and another slot on the end-wall were designed to fully remove both the separated flow on the blade suction surface and the 3D corner separation, reducing the total pressure loss coefficient significantly.

Suppressing unsteady motion of shock wave by high-frequency plasma synthetic jet

Yanhao Luo et al.

Summary: Experimental results show that a PSJA with a 2 kHz frequency can effectively suppress the low-frequency unsteadiness of the shock wave, whereas higher frequency actuation exacerbates the low-frequency unsteady motion of the shock wave.

Experimental investigation on compression ramp shock wave/boundary layer interaction control using plasma actuator array

Mengxiao Tang et al.

Summary: Particle image velocimetry measurement was conducted in a Mach 2.0 supersonic wind tunnel to study shock wave/boundary layer interaction and quantitatively reveal the plasma flow control effect. The results showed a reduction in shock wave drag and decrease in shock wave angle by using a streamwise plasma actuator array as the control device, indicating the effectiveness of the control mechanism. Additionally, the high-frequency actuation was found to play a key role in achieving continuous control.
