Parton distributions and lattice-QCD calculations: Toward 3D structure

Martha Constantinou et al.

Summary: The theory of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) describes the strong force binding hadrons together. Parton distribution functions (PDFs) have been successful in describing collinear partons within hadrons, but new experiments are exploring the transverse structure using generalized parton distributions (GPDs) and transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMD PDFs). Different methods, including perturbative QCD factorization theorems and lattice-QCD calculations, are used to determine PDFs and generalize the understanding of hadron structure.

A hybrid renormalization scheme for quasi light-front correlations in large-momentum effective theory

Xiangdong Ji et al.

Summary: In LaMET, parton physics in hadrons of momentum Pz is calculated by computing coordinate-space-z correlation functions that need proper renormalization to deal with linear and logarithmic divergences in lattice spacing. A hybrid renormalization procedure is introduced to match lattice correlations to those in the continuum MS scheme without introducing non-perturbative effects. Extrapolating lattice data to the asymptotic z-region based on generic properties of coordinate space correlations at moderate and large Pz is recommended to obtain momentum-space distributions.

Nucleon gluon distribution function from 2+1+1-flavor lattice QCD

Zhouyou Fan et al.

Summary: In this study, the first lattice-QCD results were presented to access the x-dependence of the gluon unpolarized PDF of the nucleon. The results show that the fitted gluon PDFs at both pion masses are consistent with global fits in the x > 0.3 region.

Electron-ion collider in China

Daniele P. Anderle et al.

Summary: The EicC project in China proposes to construct an Electron-ion collider based on an upgraded heavy-ion accelerator, providing highly polarized electrons and protons with variable center of mass energies. The main goals include precise measurements of nucleon structure, partonic structure of nuclei, interaction with nuclear environment, and exotic states with heavy flavor quark contents. A hermetical detector system with cutting-edge technologies will be constructed to achieve these physics goals.

Quark distribution inside a pion in many-flavor (2+1)-dimensional QCD using lattice computations: UV listens to IR

Nikhil Karthik

Summary: In this study, changes in the short-distance quark structure of the Nambu-Goldstone boson were investigated in the context of 2+1 dimensional two-color QCD. It was found that the shape of the valence parton distribution function of the pion dramatically changed from being broad in the scale-broken sector to being sharply peaked in the near-conformal region, with relatively mild variations in the first few PDF moments compared to the changes in decay constant.

Gluon distributions and their applications to Ioffe-time distributions

Raza Sabbir Sufian et al.

Summary: In this study, unpolarized and polarized gluon distributions were investigated and parameterized to obtain consistent results, with a focus on their applications to Ioffe-time distributions in lattice QCD calculations. Our results can guide the extrapolation of lattice QCD data and help regulate the ill-posed inverse problem of extracting gluon distributions. Phenomenological approaches are important in obtaining complementary information and discussing higher-twist effects and systematic uncertainties in contemporary first-principle calculations of parton distributions.

Flavor nonsinglet parton distribution functions from lattice QCD at physical quark masses via the pseudodistribution approach

Manjunath Bhat et al.

Summary: This study provides a determination of the flavor nonsinglet (u - d) unpolarized parton distribution function using the nonperturbative formulation of QCD on the lattice, making the first attempt at using Radyushkin's pseudodistribution approach directly at the physical point. Extracted coordinate-space matrix elements are used to find the relevant physical Ioffe time distributions, resolving the full Bjorken-x dependence of PDFs with various reconstruction methods to handle ill-conditioned inverse problems encountered with discrete lattice data.
