Polarization Rotation at Morphotropic Phase Boundary in New Lead-Free Na1/2Bi1/2V1-xTixO3 Piezoceramics

Zhao Pan et al.

Summary: Polarization rotation enhances piezoresponse in high-performance lead-free piezoelectric material Na1/2Bi1/2V1-xTxO3, showing a favorable morphotropic phase boundary located around x = 0.90. XRD measurements revealed the moderately high Curie temperature of 523 K at x = 0.95, while the piezoelectric coefficient d(33) of the monoclinic x = 0.95 sample is higher than those of tetragonal and rhombohedral phases.

Deterministic contribution of low symmetry phases to piezoresponse in oxide ferroelectrics

M. J. Zou et al.

Summary: This study reveals the essential role of phase transformation from monoclinic to tetragonal in the superior piezoelectric properties of oxide materials. By integrating the three mechanisms of piezoresponse, it may facilitate the development of high-performance piezoelectric materials for electronic device applications.

Stabilization of monoclinic distortion in [111] epitaxial PbTiO3 films

Zhizhong Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigates monoclinic distortion stabilized in a compressively strained [111] PbTiO3 crystal, in which the polarization vector is confined in a symmetry plane, using a phenomenological model. Rhombohedral to monoclinic transitions can be induced by stress normal to the film surface when flattening of energy surface reaches a critical barrier level. The impact of compressive stress on polarization, monoclinic shear strain, and volume change of unit cell is calculated and compared with experimental reports, predicting dielectric and piezoelectric anomalies in the stabilized monoclinic phase.
