Self-organized topological insulator due to cavity-mediated correlated tunneling

Titas Chanda et al.

Summary: Topological materials have potential applications in quantum technologies and a model where topology emerges from quantum interference is discussed. The study shows that quantum interference can lead to the emergence of topological insulators, which can be realized in experiments.

Multi-critical topological transition at quantum criticality

Ranjith R. Kumar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the topological quantum phase transition between gapless phases in the transverse field Ising model, revealing the distinct nature of different topological phases and the presence of multi-critical points. The topological transition between the gapless phases on the critical line occurs through a non-trivial multi-critical point in the Lifshitz universality class. The breakdown of Lorentz invariance and the effective use of scaling theories and curvature function renormalization group are also demonstrated in understanding these transitions.

Gapless Topological Phases and Symmetry-Enriched Quantum Criticality

Ruben Verresen et al.

Summary: We introduce topological invariants for gapless systems and study the associated boundary phenomena, primarily focusing on the 1 + 1d case where the edge has a topological degeneracy with exponential or algebraic finite-size splitting. Symmetry properties of low-energy conformal field theory (CFT) provide discrete invariants establishing symmetry-enriched quantum criticality, with examples such as the Ising phase and cluster phases. The formalism unifies various examples previously studied in literature, including the classification of symmetry-enriched 1 + 1d Ising CFTs and the construction of topological invariants in higher dimensions.

Roton Excitations in an Oblate Dipolar Quantum Gas

J-N Schmidt et al.

Summary: By observing density fluctuations near a droplet crystallization transition in dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates, researchers were able to characterize radial and angular roton excitations and identify the crystallization mechanism. The fluctuations peak with increasing interaction strength, indicating the system's transition to a crystalline state. Comparisons with theoretically calculated excitation spectra provided insights into the softening of angular roton modes.

Supersolid-superfluid phase separation in the extended Bose-Hubbard model

Korbinian Kottmann et al.

Summary: Recent research has identified a new phase separated phase in the extended Bose-Hubbard model in one dimension at integer filling, with superfluid and supersolid parts generated by mechanical instability. Numerical simulations reveal peculiar spatial patterns and characteristics in different phases, which persist in the thermodynamic limit. Furthermore, the low-energy spectrum of the phase can be effectively captured by a spinless Luttinger liquid, with consistent results between different analysis methods.
