Geometrical Bounds of the Irreversibility in Markovian Systems

Summary: In this study, geometrical bounds on irreversibility in quantum and classical Markovian open systems satisfying the detailed balance condition were derived using information geometry. It was proven that irreversible entropy production is constrained by a modified Wasserstein distance between initial and final states, enhancing the Clausius inequality in reversible-Markov systems. These bounds, interpreted as quantum and classical speed limits, constrain the minimum time required for transforming a system state, and can be used to obtain tighter efficiency bounds for quantum heat engines.

Thermodynamic Uncertainty Relation for General Open Quantum Systems

Summary: We derived a thermodynamic uncertainty relation for general open quantum systems, which constrains counting observables by measuring the environmental state and applies to different counting observables and initial states. We found that the quantum nature of the system can enhance measurement precision, and the lower bound can be reduced by employing continuous measurements.

Heat engines operating in the periodic slow-driving regime can satisfy a less restrictive uncertainty relation, allowing for finite power production with small fluctuations while operating close to reversibility. The inclusion of quantum fluctuations reduces engine efficiency relative to average power and reliability.
