Study of defect properties and recombination mechanism in rubidium treated Cu(In, Ga)Se2 solar cells

Hamidou Tangara et al.

Summary: The post-deposition treatment of rubidium fluoride has been found to significantly influence the electronic and carrier recombination properties of narrowgap and widegap CIGSe solar cells, resulting in improved interface quality and reduced optical response of bulk defects after treatment. The treatment also leads to extended carrier lifetimes and a correlation between enhanced carrier lifetime and improved open-circuit voltage for narrow gap CIGSe cells. Overall, the key to photovoltaic performance enhancement seems to lie in the improved interface quality.

Enhancement of the photoelectrochemical properties of a CuGaSe2-based photocathode for water reduction induced by loading of a Cu-deficient layer at the p-n heterointerface

Shigeru Ikeda et al.

Summary: The study found that loading an appropriate thickness of the Cu-deficient layer (CDL) on the top part of the CuGaSe2 film can achieve a larger current flow and relatively positive photocurrent onset, effectively improving the photocathode activity. The half-cell solar-to-hydrogen efficiency reached 6.6% over the best photocathode, while the photocathode based on the CuGaSe2 film with an extremely thick CDL and a relatively thick CdS layer achieved the highest photocurrent onset potential.

Wittichenite semiconductor of Cu3BiS3 films for efficient hydrogen evolution from solar driven photoelectrochemical water splitting

Dingwang Huang et al.

Summary: A Cu3BiS3-based photocathode with high onset potential and long-term stability in neutral water solutions has been developed, achieving a photoelectrochemical current density of 7mA/cm(2) and an unbiased solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of over 2% when combined with a BiVO4 photoanode. The tandem device of Cu3BiS3-BiVO4 also demonstrates high stability over 20 hours, and a large module has been fabricated with a long-term stability of 60 hours for overall solar water splitting.
