Size Tuned Synthesis of FeOOH Nanorods toward Self-Assembled Nanoarchitectonics

Summary: Various sizes of beta-FeOOH nanorods were successfully fabricated by hydrolysis of ferric ions in different concentrations, leading to control over the length and aspect ratio of the rods in the nano range. The resulting FeOOH nanorods exhibited mesoporous features with different pore patterns based on their sizes, and longer rods were able to form nematic phases at a certain concentration. The zeta-potential of the nanorods prevented the formation of dense arrays, resulting in bundle-like structures.
