X-Ray induced desorption and photochemistry in CO ice

R. Dupuy et al.

Summary: The study investigates X-ray induced desorption of neutrals, cations and anions from CO ice. It quantifies and discusses the desorption of neutral CO, which is the most abundant species in the ice, in the context of astrochemistry. The research also observes desorption of various cations, including those with large mass, while only O- and C- anions are detected desorbing. Discussing the desorption mechanisms of these species with the help of their photodesorption spectrum, the study shows significant chemical modifications of the ice upon irradiation and provides new insights into X-ray induced photochemistry in CO ice.

In Situ/Operando (Soft) X-ray Spectroscopy Study of Beyond Lithium-ion Batteries

Feipeng Yang et al.

Summary: Researchers are aiming to develop alternative battery systems with low cost and high material abundance beyond lithium-ion batteries, emphasizing the importance of understanding the chemical and electronic structure of materials. Soft X-ray spectroscopy, as an element-specific technique, can be applied to study electronic and structural changes in electrode and electrolyte species through operando experiments, serving as a powerful tool for the development of beyond lithium-ion batteries.
