Intermolecular driving forces on the adsorption of DNA/RNA nucleobases to graphene and phosphorene: An atomistic perspective from DFT calculations

Diego Cortes-Arriagada

Summary: Graphene and phosphorene exhibit strong affinity towards DNA/RNA nucleobases, making them promising materials for bioinorganic interfaces. The adsorption of nucleobases onto graphene and phosphorene is mainly driven by electrostatics and dispersion effects, with solvent effects destabilizing the complexes in solution. Phosphorene shows higher destabilization in aqueous solution compared to graphene due to solvent polarity differences.

Built-in electric field control of magnetic coupling in van der Waals semiconductors

Chengxi Huang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a general approach to control the magnetic properties of van der Waals 2D magnetic semiconductors using an internal electric field generated by superatomic ions. The findings predict significant changes in ferromagnetic coupling and magnetic anisotropy, with potential implications for ionically controlled ferromagnets and magnetoelectronics based on vdW 2D semiconductors.
