Consumption of pistachio nuts positively affects lipid profiles: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Amir Hadi et al.

Summary: Consuming pistachio nuts can lower TC, LDL-C, and TG levels, but does not affect HDL-C levels. Consuming pistachio nuts may improve lipid profiles and protect against cardiometabolic diseases.

The effect of probiotics, prebiotics or synbiotics on metabolic outcomes in individuals with diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Patricia M. Bock et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of probiotic, prebiotic or synbiotic supplementation on gut microbiota and metabolic outcomes in individuals with diabetes. The results showed that these supplements can lead to improvements in fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, insulinaemia and HDL-cholesterol levels. Further research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits of these supplements in diabetes management.

Efficacy and safety of low and very low carbohydrate diets for type 2 diabetes remission: systematic review and meta-analysis of published and unpublished randomized trial data

Joshua Z. Goldenberg et al.

Summary: Patients with type 2 diabetes adhering to a low carbohydrate diet for six months may experience remission of diabetes without adverse consequences. There were significant improvements in weight loss, triglycerides, and insulin sensitivity at six months, but these improvements diminished at 12 months. VLCDs were found to be less effective than less restrictive LCDs for weight loss at six months, but this was due to diet adherence.

Metabolic syndrome and synbiotic targeting of the gut microbiome

Maria A. Nunez-Sanchez et al.

Summary: Metabolic syndrome, a global epidemic caused by poor dietary habits, involves complex metabolic disorders including alterations in gut microbiome. Non-pharmacological approaches, such as synbiotics, are being explored due to high costs associated with long-term management, yet high-quality interventional clinical trials are scarce. This review evaluates the effects of synbiotics on different metabolic manifestations of MetS in human subjects.

Crosstalk of Magnesium and Serum Lipids in Dyslipidemia and Associated Disorders: A Systematic Review

Mihnea-Alexandru Gaman et al.

Summary: This review explores the associations between magnesium and lipid profiles, showing a correlation between magnesium concentrations in the body and serum lipids in dyslipidemia and related disorders. Further research is needed to clarify whether higher magnesium intake through diet or supplements can affect lipid profiles.

Ferulic Acid Ameliorates Atherosclerotic Injury by Modulating Gut Microbiota and Lipid Metabolism

Yuyan Gu et al.

Summary: Ferulic acid (FA) can significantly alleviate atherosclerotic injury in mice by modulating lipid metabolism and gut microbiota. This improvement may be partly achieved through the AMPK alpha/SREBP1/ACC1 pathway.
