Fossil eggshells of amniotes as a paleothermometry tool

Summary: This study demonstrates the paleothermometric potential of fossil eggshells by using Raman spectroscopy and spectrum deconvolution technique to estimate the maximum paleotemperature recorded in the eggshells. The research shows that different types of eggshells from similar locations exhibit similar paleotemperature gradients, while the same type of eggshells record different gradients depending on their spatial distribution. The findings suggest that fossil eggshells can be valuable for evaluating the thermal evolution of sedimentary basins.
