Unusual shallow water Devonian coral community from Queensland and its recent analogues from the inshore Great Barrier Reef

Mikolaj K. Zapalski et al.

Summary: Palaeozoic coral communities were dominated by two extinct coral groups, Tabulata and Rugosa. Despite not being closely related to modern Scleractinia, they display morphological convergence which suggests that similar environments may result in morphologically equivalent coral assemblages.

The mid-Tournaisian (Early Carboniferous) anoxic event in the Laurussian shelf basin (Poland): An integrative approach

Michal Rakocinski et al.

Summary: The study indicates that anoxic/euxinic conditions existed on the sea bottom during the Lower Alum Shale Event (LASE) in the Polish part of the Laurussia basin, possibly due to enhanced primary productivity in the water column. Additionally, volcanic activity and global climatic changes may have led to significant sea level rise and a global transgression event.
