Upper gastrointestinal safety of oral bisphosphonate in hospitalized patients

Summary: Oral bisphosphonates are effective in preventing fractures in osteoporosis patients, but may cause gastrointestinal adverse reactions. A study on hospitalized patients showed a similar incidence of upper gastrointestinal symptoms compared to community trials, indicating that these medications can be safely administered in a hospital setting.
