(-)-Tubifolidine as strychnos indole alkaloid: Spectroscopic charactarization (FT-IR, NMR, UV-Vis), antioxidant activity, molecular docking, and DFT studies

Summary: The study investigated the spectroscopic characteristics, antioxidant activity, and molecular docking of tubifolidine, a type of Strychnos indole alkaloid. The results showed that tubifolidine exhibited strong antioxidant activity and possibly interacted with the topoisomerase receptor. Additionally, calculations on the molecular structure and spectroscopic properties revealed low stability of tubifolidine and a dominant electro-donating power over electroaccepting capability.

An Effective Approach to the Strychnos Alkaloids: Total Synthesis of Tubifolidine

Summary: A facile total synthesis of tubifolidine has been developed with an overall yield of 10% through an 11-step synthesis of the ABCDE pentacyclic structure of strychnos alkaloids. The key steps include a cyclization reaction mediated by tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone (TCB) and the intramolecular addition of the amide as a nucleophile. This cyclization reaction has been successfully applied to relevant structures, including strychnos skeletal-type alkaloids.
