Phase-Dependent Reactivity and Host Guest Behaviors of a Metallo-Macrocycle in Liquid and Solid-State Photosensitized Oxygenation Reactions

Kenichiro Omoto et al.

Summary: The study investigated the photochemical oxygenation reactions of a host-guest complex in solution and in the solid state, showing remarkable phase dependence in reactivity and functions. The result revealed that in solution, the anthracene moieties of the ligand were fully oxygenated to form a macrocycle, while in the solid state, a site-selectively oxygenated inclusion complex was formed with controlled oxygenated sites.

Open-Shell Graphene Fragments

Wangdong Zeng et al.

Summary: The electronic properties of finite-sized graphene fragments are strongly dependent on their topological structures, especially when they possess extended zigzag edges. Synthesis of open-shell molecules with unique magnetic activity is challenging, and can be predicted and analyzed using Clar's sextets and density functional theory. Their magnetic activity and quantum properties make them promising materials for carbon-based spintronic and quantum devices.

On-surface synthesis of graphene nanostructures with π-magnetism

Shaotang Song et al.

Summary: The article discusses the importance and potential of graphene nanostructures (ZGNs) in chemistry and materials science, outlines the challenges of the influence of substitutional groups on the properties of ZGNs, and proposes on-surface bottom-up synthesis as a new method for research. It reviews the progress and challenges of surface synthesis of ZGNs.
