Intrinsic efficiency limits in low-bandgap non-fullerene acceptor organic solar cells

Safakath Karuthedath et al.

Summary: In bulk heterojunction organic solar cells based on low-bandgap non-fullerene acceptors, ultrafast donor-to-acceptor energy transfer precedes hole transfer, and an ionization energy offset of about 0.5 eV is required for efficient charge separation.

Re-excitation dynamics of a cold charge transfer state at organic donor/acceptor interfaces

Maomao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study theoretically investigates the re-excitation dynamics of a cold charge transfer state at organic donor/acceptor interfaces using a femtosecond electric pump pulse. It is found that the pulse energy can push the relaxed CCT state to different hot CT states, and the application of a driving field can dissociate the HCT states into free charges, with HCT 2 state being more easily dissociated compared to HCT 1 state.

Synergistic effect of incorporating intra- and inter-molecular charge transfer in nonfullerene acceptor molecules for highly-efficient organic solar cells

Yiwen Ji et al.

Summary: A universal quantum model was proposed in this study, revealing the presence of inter-molecular charge transfer in NFA molecular aggregates and significantly reducing the excited state binding energy through the synergistic effect of both Intra- and Inter-CT. This demonstrates that the dependence of charge generation on the D/A energy offset can be eliminated through rational design of NFA molecules.
