In-situ O/N-heteroatom enriched activated carbon by sustainable thermal transformation of waste coffee grounds for supercapacitor material

Rumana Hossain et al.

Summary: The study converts waste coffee grounds into activated carbon using a sustainable thermal transformation method, achieving stable specific surface area and meso-microporous structure for enhanced performance in energy storage applications. The in-situ nitrogen/oxygen hetero-atom enrichment and porous structure contribute to improved specific capacitance and cycling stability of the activated carbon. This successful combination of sustainable process and utilization of waste resources presents a promising perspective for underutilized waste coffee grounds.

An ultrasensitive biosensor based on three-dimensional nanoporous conducting polymer decorated with gold nanoparticles for microRNA detection

Yihui Ma et al.

Summary: A promising electrochemical biosensor based on three-dimensional nanoporous conducting polymer PEDOT decorated with gold nanoparticles was developed for selective and ultrasensitive detection of miRNA24 using methylene blue as redox indicator. The biosensor exhibited significantly enlarged specific surface area and enhanced sensitivity compared to planar PEDOT-based biosensors, achieving a detection range from 1 fM to 10 nM with high stability, selectivity, and low limit of detection. The strategy of using porous conducting polymers decorated with AuNPs proved to be effective in increasing the electroactive surface area of sensing interfaces and enhancing sensitivity.

Effects of crosslinked polycarboxylate superplasticizers with crosslinking agent containing ester and amide groups on the properties of cementitious systems

Xiuju Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, crosslinked polycarboxylate superplasticizers were synthesized using different crosslinking agents, and their performance was characterized. It was found that superplasticizers containing ester groups exhibited better dispersibility, fluidity retention, and adsorption capacity than those containing amide groups. Additionally, the ester-based superplasticizers promoted cement hydration to a greater degree than their amide-based counterparts.
