Distribution Characteristics and Enrichment Model of Germanium in Coal: An Example from the Yimin Coalfield, Hailar Basin, China

Bo Jiu et al.

Summary: The research focused on the Cretaceous Ge-rich coal seam in the Yimin Coalfield, which hosts the third largest coal-hosted germanium ore deposit in China. Ge concentration in the coal ranges from 28.1 to 135.5 ppm, increasing towards the Ge source direction, and is inversely proportional to ash content and directly proportional to sulfur and volatiles content.

Strontium isotopes in high- and low-Ge coals from the Shengli Coalfield, Inner Mongolia, northern China: New indicators for Ge source

Jingjing Liu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the Sr-87/Sr-86 values in high-Ge coal from the Wulantuga deposit and equivalent low-Ge coal from the Shengli Coalfield in northern China. The findings suggest that the higher Sr-87/Sr-86 values in high-Ge coals indicate a local source of radiogenic Sr associated with the elevated concentration of Ge. This provides insight into the enrichment processes of Ge in coal and indicates the primary source of Ge in the Wulantuga coal-hosted Ge deposit.

Distribution of Industrially Valuable Trace Elements Associated with Germanium in the Coals of the Pavlovsk Deposit (Spetsugli Section)

V. I. Vyalov et al.

Summary: The concentrations and distributions of industrially valuable trace elements associated with germanium in the coals of the Spetsugli section of the Pavlovsk brown coal deposit in Primorskii krai were studied using mass spectrometry and laser microanalysis. The study identified the concentrations of a number of metals in traditional types of ores at a minimum industrial level and also established the geochemical associations of industrially valuable metals and other impurity elements. Maximum concentrations of many trace elements in low-ash coals were noted, and the distribution of trace impurity elements in the coal matter and the macerals of coals was studied to draw conclusions on the genesis of trace elements.
