Constraints on the Formation of the Giant Daheishan Porphyry Mo Deposit (NE China) from Whole-Rock and Accessory Mineral Geochemistry

Summary: The study on the Daheishan Mo deposit in northeastern China suggests that the formation of the deposit is related to the subduction of the Paleo-Pacific oceanic plate and subsequent slab rollback in a continental arc setting. Factors controlling Mo mineralization include magma oxidation states, water contents, sulfur and metal concentrations. Isotopic data of apatite and titanite suggest a potential mixing model between mantle-derived basaltic melts and the Precambrian lower crust during the formation of the deposit.

Recycled volatiles determine fertility of porphyry deposits in collisional settings

Summary: The study of geochemical characteristics of apatite associated with porphyry deposits provides insights into the origin of copper and gold mineralization and the transport of metals in magmatic fluids. The higher concentrations of Cl and S in apatites from fertile porphyries compared to barren ones suggest a derivation from pre-enriched sub-continental lithospheric mantle affected by previous oceanic subduction. This study highlights the importance of refertilization of suprasubduction lithospheric mantle for the formation of fertile porphyry deposits in post-subduction settings.
