The potential use of boron containing resources for protection against nuclear radiation

Mengge Dong et al.

Summary: The study examines the shielding performance of boron-containing natural materials in Liaoning Province, China, against neutron and gamma radiation, finding that boron content and material density have a positive correlation with shielding ability. Composites prepared with boron resources and epoxy resin show excellent neutron shielding but poor performance against gamma rays.

Gamma radiation shielding and structural features for barium strontium boro-tellurite glass modified with various concentrations of molybdenum oxide

M. I. Sayyed et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of glass samples with different compositions were synthesized and various parameters were calculated to define their physical features. The results showed that the addition of MoO3 instead of B2O3 in the glass samples can improve their structural and shielding features, indicating that they can be used as effective radiation shielding absorbers.

Optical and radiation shielding features for a new series of borate glass samples

M. I. Sayyed et al.

Summary: By exploring a series of borate glass samples for their durability and optical parameters, it was found that sample S2 exhibited the highest durability and a good correlation with optical features. The radiation shielding properties of the glass samples were also investigated, with sample S5 showing the best shielding properties for gamma and proton radiation, while sample S1 provided the highest neutron shielding features.

Optical, mechanical properties of TeO2-CdO-PbO-B2O3 glass systems and radiation shielding investigation using EPICS2017 library

M. I. Sayyed et al.

Summary: The TeO2-CdO-PbO-B2O3 glass system was prepared using the melt quenching method. It was observed that optical packing density, number of bonds per unit volume, and various elastic moduli increased with higher PbO content. Additionally, indirect and direct band gap energies decreased as the concentration of PbO increased. The mass attenuation coefficient derived from EPICS2017 library showed higher values at lower energies compared to Phy-X/PSD, but lower values at higher energies.

Characterization of gamma-ray and neutron radiation absorption properties of synthesized quinoline derivatives and their genotoxic potential

Burak Alaylar et al.

Summary: This study synthesized six different types of quinoline derivatives for potential use as an anti-radiation drug, and assessed their effectiveness against radiation through Monte Carlo simulation and experimental measurements. Results showed that the quinoline derivative shielding material performed better than traditional materials in absorbing radiation, and the derivatives were found to be genotoxically safe at tested concentrations. It is suggested that these new radiation shielding derivatives could be used as active ingredients in drugs developed to combat both neutron and gamma radiation.
