Dielectric Resonant Metaphotonics

Kirill Koshelev et al.

Summary: The rapid progress in subwavelength optics and nanophotonics is supported by Mie resonances in high refractive index nanoparticles, which provides a new platform for light localization and opens up new horizons for metamaterial-enabled photonics. This review paper discusses recent advances in Mie-resonant metaphotonics for high-index dielectric nanoparticles and metasurfaces, as well as their applications in topological photonics, while also outlining future developments in this field and its connections to other research areas.

Tensorial phase control in nonlinear meta-optics

Carlo Gigli et al.

Summary: Nonlinear metasurfaces have achieved harmonic generation at subwavelength level, providing spectral and polarization control not achievable in bulk crystals. While full-phase control of the generated harmonic field has not been demonstrated yet, a method to generate phase-encoded second harmonic light has been proposed using AlGaAs metasurfaces. This breakthrough opens up new possibilities for the development of ultrathin, free-space photonic devices for nonlinear imaging.

Hertz-linewidth semiconductor lasers using CMOS-ready ultra-high-Q microresonators

Warren Jin et al.

Summary: Highly coherent electrically pumped integrated lasers with ultra-high-Q microresonators have been demonstrated, achieving a frequency noise of 0.2 Hz(-1) and a short-term linewidth of 1.2 Hz. This configuration not only relieves dispersion requirements but also enables superior optical performance driven by narrow-linewidth bench-top lasers.

Dissipation-induced antiferromagneticlike frustration in coupled photonic resonators

Zejian Li et al.

Summary: The study introduces a photonic quantum simulator for antiferromagnetic spin systems based on reservoir engineering, which allows for simulating antiferromagnetism and frustration on a controlled quantum optical platform. By indirectly coupling quadratically driven dissipative Kerr cavities via lossy ancillary cavities, an effective dissipative and Hamiltonian antiferromagneticlike coupling between the cavities is achieved. The non-equilibrium steady state of the system shows similarities with the ground state of an antiferromagnetic Ising model, indicating key features of frustration.
