Improve optical properties by modifying Ag nanoparticles on a razor clam SERS substrate

Liting Guo et al.

Summary: Irregular substrates are typically unsuitable for enhancing surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) due to their poor uniformity, enhancement performance, and polarization characteristics. However, by intentionally utilizing the messy and irregular structures of a natural biological razor clam, this study successfully improved SERS performance through the use of treated silver nanoparticles to create relatively uniform structures. This resulted in better reproducibility, polarization independence, and higher SERS intensity, with the potential for ultrasensitive detection of thiram and applications in high-sensitivity biosensors.

Towards practical and sustainable SERS: a review of recent developments in the construction of multifunctional enhancing substrates

Chunchun Li et al.

Summary: SERS is a powerful analytical technique with molecular specificity and single-molecule sensitivity, which can be combined with portable Raman spectrometers for real-life chemical analysis and fundamental studies. To overcome the high cost limitation, the development of multifunctional SERS substrates is a viable approach, including flexible, separation-enhancement-in-one, calibration-enhancement-in-one, and regeneration-enhancement-in-one substrates.
