Probability of a ship becoming beset in ice along the Northern Sea Route - A Bayesian analysis of real-life data

Jarno Vanhatalo et al.

Summary: This article presents a probabilistic approach to assess the probability of a ship becoming beset in ice in Arctic waters, combining different types of data using a hierarchical Bayesian model. A case study demonstrates that the probability of besetting is strongly dependent on the Polar Ship Category of a ship and increases significantly with higher ice concentrations.

Risk Reasoning from Factor Correlation of Maritime Traffic under Arctic Sea Ice Status Association with a Bayesian Belief Network

Zhuang Li et al.

Summary: This study proposes a dynamic assessment model of ship-ice collision risk based on the sea ice status dynamic association effect. By analyzing key factors influencing ship-ice collision risk and using Bayesian network method, the research optimizes the inference of ship-ice collision risk in Arctic waters.

Decision-making on process risk of Arctic route for LNG carrier via dynamic Bayesian network modeling

Zhuang Li et al.

Summary: Developing a risk decision-making model for ship navigation in Arctic waters is crucial. The use of dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) and Markov Chain (MC) for risk assessment and decision-making. The application examples demonstrate the importance of selecting the appropriate route for ship navigation in Arctic waters.
