Relationship between the quality of the pregnant woman's diet and birth weight: a prospective cohort study

Izabela da Silva Santos et al.

Summary: The study found that better diet quality and higher omega-3 intake are protective factors for LGA babies. Increased maternal omega-3 intake reduces the risk of LBW and LGA, and may be a protective factor against the birth of SGA infants.

Systematic Literature Review and Meta-Analysis of the Relationship Between Polyunsaturated and Trans Fatty Acids During Pregnancy and Offspring Weight Development

Xuan Ren et al.

Summary: This study suggests that supplementing pregnant women with DHA and/or EPA doses greater than 650 mg/day may lead to higher birth weight and BMI in childhood. However, results from observational studies were inconsistent, and high levels of trans fatty acids during pregnancy were associated with lower birth weight. Further high-quality long-term studies are needed.
