Long-range collectivity in small collision-systems with two- and four-particle correlations @ STAR

Roy A. Lacey

Summary: New differential and integral v(2,3) measurements for p/d/He-3+Au collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV show that the results are method-independent and indicate system-independent v(2){2} and v(3){2} values. The measurements confirm the important role of final-state effects and suggest an increase in eta/s(T, mu(B)) for small collision-systems.

Hadronic rescattering in pA and AA collisions

Christian Bierlich et al.

Summary: The study presents a model for hadronic rescattering which is implemented in Pythia for simulating pp, pA, and AA collisions, showing the impact of rescattering on distributions, space-time evolution, and flow generation. Rescattering is found to significantly contribute to elliptic flow in XeXe and PbPb collisions and has a nontrivial impact on charm production.

Investigating high energy proton proton collisions with a multi-phase transport model approach based on PYTHIA8 initial conditions

Liang Zheng et al.

Summary: The study connects initial conditions from PYTHIA8 with subsequent AMPT rescatterings to investigate collective behavior in high-energy pp collisions, finding that both partonic and hadronic final state interactions are crucial for generating radial flow features in pp transverse momentum spectra. Additionally, it shows that two-particle azimuthal correlations in high multiplicity pp events are sensitive to proton sub-nucleon spatial fluctuations.

Double strangeness Ξ- production as a probe of nuclear equation of state at high densities

Gao-Chan Yong et al.

Summary: The study investigates double strangeness Xi(-) production in Au+Au collisions at different beam energies, revealing that the sensitivity of Xi(-) to the equation of state (EoS) is larger compared to single strangeness (K+ and Lambda + Sigma(0)). This finding suggests that Xi(-) production can serve as an alternative method for exploring the EoS and the phase transition in heavy-ion collisions.

The smallest fluid on Earth

Bjorn Schenke

Summary: High energy heavy ion collisions create quark gluon plasmas that behave like almost perfect fluids, similar features have also been observed in experimental data from collisions of small systems. Research efforts are focused on understanding whether systems that produce relatively few particles and are only one to a few times the size of a proton can behave like fluids, by improving our understanding of fluid dynamics and initial state effects within an effective theory of quantum chromodynamics.

Factorization and transverse phase-space parton distributions

Bin Wu

Summary: This study revisits impact-parameter dependent collisions of ultra-relativistic particles in quantum field theory and provides two conditions sufficient for defining an impact-parameter dependent cross section. By imposing these conditions, a general formula for the impact-parameter dependent cross section is derived, and a factorization formula for inclusive hard processes is obtained using soft-collinear effective theory. This factorization formula is verified for hard processes in heavy-ion collisions and up to one loop in perturbative QCD for the inclusive Drell-Yan process in quark-antiquark collisions at a finite impact parameter.

Using local nuclear scaling of initial condition parameters to improve the system size dependence of transport model descriptions of nuclear collisions

Summary: This study extensively investigates the system size dependence of nuclear collisions using a multiphase transport model. By scaling key parameters and using local nuclear thickness functions, the model can now consistently describe the system size and centrality dependences of different collision systems.

Light nuclei production in a multiphase transport model for relativistic heavy ion collisions

Kai-Jia Sun et al.

Summary: Through studying the production of deuteron and triton by nucleon coalescence in relativistic heavy ion collisions using an improved multiphase transport model, it was found that the yield ratio of proton, deuteron, and triton is a monotonic function of collision energy. This study confirms previous results showing that the yield ratio does not exhibit nonmonotonic behavior with collision energy in models with no phase transition or a crossover transition between quark-gluon plasma and hadronic matter.

Calculating the initial energy density in heavy ion collisions by including the finite nuclear thickness

Todd Mendenhall et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the maximum initial energy density in heavy ion collisions varies with the formation time tau(F), showing a lower but longer-lasting maximum value at low energies, while approaching the Bjorken formula at high energies. There is also a qualitative difference in the behavior of energy density at tau(F) = 0, with the maximum energy density being finite in the current study compared to the divergence of the Bjorken formula and the previous results at low and high energies respectively.
