Characterization of silicon drift detectors with electrons for the TRISTAN project

Summary: This study presents the characterization of the first silicon drift detector prototypes with electrons and investigates the impact of uncertainties of the detector's response to electrons on the final sensitivity to sterile neutrinos. The Karlsruhe tritium neutrino (KATRIN) experiment, equipped with a novel multi-pixel silicon drift detector focal plane array and read-out system, has the potential to surpass previous laboratory-based searches in sensitivity.

Electron spectrometry with Silicon drift detectors: a GEANT4 based method for detector response reconstruction

Summary: Precision electron spectrometry in the keV range is challenging due to various effects that modify the electron's kinetic energy along its path. This paper discusses the unknown effect of the detector entrance window and proposes a MonteCarlo-based approach to reduce its negative impact. Silicon Drift Detectors show promise for electron spectrometry and are utilized in this study for characterization and validation measurements.
