Natural occurrence of ochratoxin A (OTA) in edible and not edible tissue of farmed gilthead seabream (Spurns aurata) and European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) sold on the Italian market

Valentina Meucci et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the natural occurrence of OTA in edible and non-edible tissues of farmed gilthead seabream and European seabass sold in the Italian market. The analysis showed OTA residues above the minimum detection limit in both types of tissues with no significant differences between the two species. Detection of OTA residues in muscle in commercial samples represents a new finding compared to previous studies.

A novel magneto-gold nanohybrid-enhanced lateral flow immunoassay for ultrasensitive and rapid detection of ochratoxin A in grape juice

Liangwen Hao et al.

Summary: A novel bifunctional magneto-gold nanohybrid was integrated into lateral flow immunoassay for simultaneous magnetic separation and colorimetric target sensing, achieving ultrasensitive detection of ochratoxin A in grape juice. The method demonstrated excellent selectivity and comparability to liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, and is readily extendable to other small molecule detection in food samples.

Mycotoxin reduction through lactic acid fermentation: Evidence from commercial ogi processors in southwest Nigeria

Oluwatoyin Ademola et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the feasibility of using traditional food processing methods to reduce mycotoxins in commercial processing plants in Nigeria, particularly aflatoxin and fumonisin commonly found in maize and nuts. Lactic acid fermentation significantly reduces fumonisin levels in maize, which could potentially benefit Nigerian children who consume ogi as a weaning food. However, further investigation is needed to determine the ultimate fate of these toxins before recommending it as a public health intervention.

A novel colorimetric immunoassay for sensitive monitoring of ochratoxin A based on an enzyme-controlled citrate-iron(iii) chelating system

Wenqiang Lai et al.

Summary: The study developed a novel colorimetric immunoassay sensing platform for detection of ochratoxin A using an enzyme-controlled citrate-iron(iii) chelating system. The method showed a good linear relationship and a low detection limit for OTA. It exhibited good specificity and feasibility for real samples.
