Prolactin enhances hippocampal synaptic plasticity in female mice of reproductive age

Alfonsa Zamora-Moratalla et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that prolactin enhances short and long-term synaptic plasticity in hippocampal circuits of female mice of reproductive age, but not in sexually immature females or adult males. This effect is mediated through mechanisms involving GABA(A) receptors and JAK2 signaling pathway.

Increase in serum prolactin levels in females improves the performance of spatial learning by promoting changes in the circuital dynamics of the hippocampus

Beatriz Moreno-Ruiz et al.

Summary: This study found that prolactin improves learning of a spatial memory task in female mice and induces rhythmic activity changes at the circuitry level, mainly within the theta frequency band. These results suggest that prolactin plays a significant role in the acquisition of information during spatial memory learning.
