Neuropathological consensus criteria for the evaluation of Lewy pathology in post-mortem brains: a multi-centre study

Johannes Attems et al.

Summary: Several staging systems exist for the neuropathological diagnosis of LBD, with varying levels of inter-rater reliability. The LPC system, based on a dichotomous approach for scoring LP, showed good reproducibility and allowed for the classification of all cases into distinct categories. It may serve as a reliable and useful standard future approach for the post-mortem evaluation of LP.

Complex Photophysical Properties of K114 Make for a Versatile Fluorescent Probe for Amyloid Detection

Anastasiia A. Stepanchuk et al.

Summary: Protein aggregation is a key feature in diseases like Alzheimer's, and this study used spectral confocal microscopy to enhance detection and differentiation of protein aggregates based on the unique photophysical behavior of the amyloid-specific dye K114. The emission spectrum and intensity of the dye were influenced by pH and excitation power, with unexpected fluorescence changes observed under high excitation power related to ionization of phenols. This complex photophysical behavior could potentially be exploited for improved understanding of protein aggregates.
