A Supervised Learning Algorithm for Multilayer Spiking Neural Networks Based on Temporal Coding Toward Energy-Efficient VLSI Processor Design

Yusuke Sakemi et al.

Summary: This article proposes a novel supervised learning algorithm for SNNs based on temporal coding, which can be implemented using analog resistive memory for high energy efficiency. The algorithm shows comparable classification accuracy to state-of-the-art temporal coding SNN algorithms on MNIST and Fashion-MNIST datasets. The robustness of the proposed SNNs against variations in the manufacturing process is also discussed, along with a technique to suppress the effects of these variations on recognition performance.

Deep Spiking Neural Networks With Binary Weights for Object Recognition

Yixuan Wang et al.

Summary: The study proposes an efficient weights-threshold balance conversion method to obtain SNNs with binary weights, resulting in a significant reduction in memory storage. Experimental results show that the binary SNN not only requires much less memory resources compared to its high-precision counterpart, but also achieves high-recognition accuracy comparable to other state-of-the-art SNNs.

Incorporating Learnable Membrane Time Constant to Enhance Learning of Spiking Neural Networks

Wei Fang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel training algorithm for spiking neural networks that can learn both synaptic weights and membrane time constants, leading to improved learning efficiency and robustness. The study shows that adaptable membrane time constants can reduce network sensitivity to initial values, accelerate learning, and reevaluates pooling methods in SNNs.

LOW-ACTIVITY SUPERVISED CONVOLUTIONAL SPIKING NEURAL NETWORKS APPLIED TO SPEECH COMMANDS RECOGNITION

Thomas Pellegrini et al.

Summary: The study explores the use of SNNs for SC recognition experiments, showing that SNNs can be efficiently trained. The model comprised of stacked dilated convolution spiking layers in the LIF neuron model performs very close to standard DNNs on the Google SC v1 dataset while keeping a low spiking activity.
