Analyzing efficiency of optical and THz infrared thermography in nondestructive testing of GFRPs by using the Tanimoto criterion

A. O. Chulkov et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the potential of optical and THz infrared thermography in identifying inserts in glass fiber reinforced polymer, with the best test procedure being one-sided stationary thermal nondestructive testing (TNDT) using optical heating with Xenon lamps. Close values of the Tanimoto criterion can also be achieved by line-scanning procedures. In practical applications, the line-scanning TNDT procedure with optical heating and halogen lamps is optimal.

Active Thermography for the Detection of Sub-Surface Defects on a Curved and Coated GFRP-Structure

Friederike Jensen et al.

Summary: This study utilized long-pulse thermography for the first time to detect sub-surface defects on a curved and coated test specimen, successfully detecting defects with a depth-to-diameter ratio of up to 1.04. Additionally, defects were detectable from a non-perpendicular viewing angle, showing promising potential for on-site application during the inspection of rotor blade leading edges.

Reliability Assessment for Time-Slice Enhanced Bidirectional Thermal Wave Radar Thermography of Hybrid C/GFRP Defects

Jinlong Gong et al.

Summary: In this study, a bidirectional thermal wave radar thermography (BTWRT) is utilized for inspecting hybrid C/GFRP laminates with subsurface defects, with the reliability of BTWRT investigated through probability of detection (POD) analysis. Results indicate that the ACC time-slice algorithm is more suitable for detecting C/GFRP delamination defects.
