Impact of the 2019 European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology/American College of Rheumatology Classification Criteria for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in a Multicenter Cohort Study of 133 Women With Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease

Massimo Radin et al.

Summary: The study found that when applying the 2019 EULAR/ACR criteria for SLE in a cohort of patients with UCTD, up to 17% of UCTD patients could be reclassified as having SLE. These patients had higher frequencies of mucocutaneous manifestations, arthritis, isolated urine abnormalities, and highly specific antibodies. At follow-up, they were more likely to meet the 1997 ACR revised SLE criteria and the SLICC criteria compared to other UCTD patients.

Abnormalities of the type I interferon signaling pathway in lupus autoimmunity

Stefania Gallucci et al.

Summary: Type I interferons (IFNs) play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), and aberrant IFN signaling can exacerbate SLE. Genetic and epigenetic abnormalities are present in SLE patients. Neutralizing anti-type I IFN receptor antibodies may be a therapeutic strategy.

Applying SLICC and ACR/EULAR systemic lupus erythematosus classification criteria in a cohort of patients with undifferentiated connective tissue disease

Kyle R. Drehmel et al.

Summary: The study found that 14.0% to 20.2% of UCTD patients were reclassified as SLE when using the new SLE classification criteria. The reclassification trended towards statistical significance with McNemar's test. There was substantial agreement between the SLICC and ACR/EULAR criteria, suggesting potential clinical utility for these newer criteria in identifying more SLE patients.

Interstitial Pneumonia with Autoimmune Features: Why Rheumatologist-Pulmonologist Collaboration Is Essential

Marco Sebastiani et al.

Summary: Since 2015, there has been significant attention on research related to IPAF, including studies on prevalence, clinical features, pathological features, and prognosis. Recent studies have found that about 15% of IPAF patients may progress to a defined connective tissue disease, and compared to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, IPAF patients show better performance in pulmonary function tests and oxygen delivery requirements. Further prospective studies, potentially derived from multicenter cohorts and randomized control trials, are needed to validate the proposed classification criteria.
