Quantum diffusion of microcavity solitons

Chengying Bao et al.

Summary: Studies have found that coherently pumped solitons in an ideal optical microcavity exhibit weak interaction and common-mode suppression of quantum fluctuations when they are counter-propagating, while co-propagating solitons show relative timing jitter well below the quantum limit due to their strong correlation of mutual motion. The experimental results are in good agreement with theory, establishing the fundamental limits to timing jitter in soliton microcombs and providing new insights on multisoliton physics.

Kerr optical frequency comb generation using whispering-gallery-mode resonators in the pulsed-pump regime

Thomas Daugey et al.

Summary: Kerr comb generation is usually achieved by the nonlinear dynamics of the intracavity field in a whispering-gallery-mode resonator pumped by a continuous-wave laser. This study focuses on the dynamics of Kerr optical frequency combs when pumped by a synchronous pulse train, emphasizing the impact of pump-cavity desynchronization on the spectral shape of the output combs. The proposed model based on the extension of the Lugiato-Lefever equation successfully accounts for the pulsed nature of the pump and the mismatch between the resonator's free-spectral range and the repetition rate of the pulse train.

Summary: A novel ultralow-loss AlGaAs-on-insulator platform has been demonstrated to generate time-energy entangled photons in a Q > 1 million microring resonator, with nearly 1000-fold improvement in brightness compared to existing sources. The waveguide-integrated source exhibits an internal generation rate greater than 20 x 10(9) pairs s(-1) mW(-2), emits near 1550 nm, produces heralded single photons with > 99% purity, and violates Bell's inequality by more than 40 standard deviations with visibility > 97%. These features make it an essential component for a scalable quantum photonic platform.
