Topologically stable, finite-energy electroweak-scale monopoles

P. Q. Hung

Summary: The paper proposes a model where a topologically stable monopole with a mass proportional to the electroweak scale could exist. This model involves neutrino masses, with right-handed neutrinos being non-sterile and their Majorana masses obtained through coupling with a complex triplet Higgs field. A real Higgs triplet is introduced to ensure custodial symmetry.

First Search for Dyons with the Full MoEDAL Trapping Detector in 13 TeV pp Collisions

B. Acharya et al.

Summary: The MoEDAL trapping detector is made up of approximately 800 kg of aluminum volumes and was exposed to proton-proton collisions during run 2 of the LHCb program. Evidence for particles with electric and magnetic charge in the trapping detector was sought using a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer. By excluding dyons and monopoles within certain charge and mass ranges, the study provides important insights into the characteristics of these particles.

Schwinger pair production of magnetic monopoles: Momentum distribution for heavy-ion collisions

Oliver Gould et al.

Summary: Magnetic monopoles can potentially be created through the dual Schwinger effect in strong magnetic fields, with the strongest fields currently being generated in heavy-ion collisions. Utilizing the complex worldline instanton method, researchers calculated the momentum distribution of magnetic monopoles produced in heavy-ion collisions, providing crucial information for experimental searches of monopoles in these collisions.

Monopole-antimonopole pair production in primordial magnetic fields

Takeshi Kobayashi

Summary: This study demonstrates that cosmological magnetic fields can create pairs of monopoles in the early Universe, leading to relic monopoles and self-screening of magnetic fields. By investigating these effects, limitations on monopole mass and the initial amplitude of primordial magnetic fields can be deduced. Monopoles with GUT scale mass may be produced if primordial magnetic fields exist at sufficiently high redshifts.

Instanton solution for Schwinger production of 't Hooft-Polyakov monopoles

David L-J Ho et al.

Summary: This study presents explicit numerical computation results of a novel instanton in Georgi-Glashow SU (2) theory, which is shown to be physically relevant as a mediator of 't Hooft-Polyakov magnetic monopoles production from strong magnetic fields. By using lattice field theory to overcome the breakdown of the worldline approximation in strong fields, including finite monopole size effects to all orders, it is demonstrated that considering the internal monopole structure enhances the pair production rate and confirms the classical behavior of monopole production at the Ambjorn-Olesen critical field strength.
