In silicovirtual screening, characterization, docking and molecular dynamics studies of crucial SARS-CoV-2 proteins

Meshari Alazmi et al.

Summary: This study aims to find effective natural compounds to inhibit the activity of the SARS-CoV-2 virus causing COVID-19. Through virtual screening and molecular docking, Baicalin and Limonin were identified as potential lead molecules, with Baicalin targeting NSP4, NSP15, and RdRp proteins, and Limonin inhibiting the human ACE2 receptor. The combination of Baicalin and Limonin is proposed for further in vitro and in vivo studies against COVID-19.

Hydroxychloroquine for treatment of nonsevere COVID-19 patients: Systematic review and meta-analysis of controlled clinical trials

Hozaifa Khalil Elsawah et al.

Summary: Assessing the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine in treating COVID-19 showed significant effectiveness in preventing radiological progression while not showing clinical benefits or reducing mortality rates. Furthermore, adverse effects were reported with hydroxychloroquine therapy, indicating that the risks may outweigh the benefits in nonsevere COVID-19 patients.

SARS-CoV-2 M-pro inhibitors with antiviral activity in a transgenic mouse model

Jingxin Qiao et al.

Summary: The study designed and synthesized 32 new M-pro inhibitors containing bicycloproline, which showed inhibitory effects on SARS-CoV-2. Compounds MI-09 and MI-30 exhibited excellent antiviral activity in cell-based assays and significantly reduced lung viral loads and lung lesions in a transgenic mouse model of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Both also displayed good pharmacokinetic properties and safety in rats.
