New two-dimensional arsenene polymorph predicted by first-principles calculation: robust direct bandgap and enhanced optical adsorption

Yifan Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, a new polymorph of 2D monolayer arsenic, named delta-As, with a direct bandgap characteristic was predicted. The bandgap of monolayer delta-As can be adjusted from 1.83 eV to 0 eV by applying zigzag-direction tensile strain, making it advantageous for solar cell and photodetector applications.

Mechanics of penta-graphene with vacancy defects under large amplitude tensile and shear loading

Tongwei Han et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the mechanical properties of defective penta-graphene under tensile and shear loading, finding that the elastic constants and nonlinear mechanics are influenced by different defect topologies and concentrations. The tensile and shear moduli decrease linearly with defect concentration, while yielding stresses and strains show smaller reductions.

Novel two-dimensional tetrahexagonal boron nitride with a sizable band gap and a sign-tunable Poisson's ratio

Mehmet Emin Kilic et al.

Summary: A new two-dimensional boron nitride structure, th-BN, with perfectly ordered arrangements of tetragonal and hexagonal rings is predicted to be energetically, dynamically, thermally, and mechanically stable. th-BN exhibits exceptional mechanical properties such as high in-plane stiffness and tunable Poisson's ratio. It also shows high optical absorption in the ultraviolet region and can be stacked into different configurations with exotic electronic properties, making it suitable for high-performance optoelectronic device applications.
