Prevalence, Predictors, and Outcomes of Esophageal Candidiasis in Cirrhosis: An Observational Study With Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (CANDID-VIEW)

Nipun Verma et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the prevalence, risk factors, and outcomes of esophageal candidiasis (EC) in cirrhosis patients. The results showed that EC is not a rare infection in cirrhosis patients and may lead to invasive candidiasis and untimely deaths. Alcohol binge, hepatocellular carcinoma, upper gastrointestinal bleed, ACLF, diabetes, and higher MELD are the independent predictors of EC in cirrhosis.

Factors determining the mortality in cirrhosis patients with invasive candidiasis: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Nipun Verma et al.

Summary: This study revealed a high mortality rate in patients with liver cirrhosis and invasive candidiasis, with key factors such as ICU admission, ACLF, high MELD, peritonitis, and candidemia contributing to the increased mortality.

Invasive aspergillosis is a critical determinant of mortality in cirrhosis: a systematic review with meta-analysis

Nipun Verma et al.

Summary: In patients with liver cirrhosis, invasive aspergillosis (IA) poses a severe threat, with a high mortality rate of 81.8%, particularly in cases of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) and ICU-admitted patients. High odds of death (8.9 times) were observed, regardless of the country, site of infection, nature of infection, and study quality.
