MIGHTEE-HI: The HI emission project of the MeerKAT MIGHTEE survey

N. Maddox et al.

Summary: The HI emission project within the MIGHTEE survey is conducted with the MeerKAT radio telescope, aiming to extend our knowledge of HI emission to z=0.6 and study the evolution of neutral gas content in galaxies over the past 5 billion years. The survey is expected to directly detect nearly 3000 galaxies in HI within 0< z< 0.4, with statistical detections extending to z=0.6.

MIGHTEE: are giant radio galaxies more common than we thought?

J. Delhaize et al.

Summary: Scientists have reported the discovery of two new giant radio galaxies (GRGs) using the MIGHTEE survey, which were found in the COSMOS field with significant redshifts and physical sizes. The excellent sensitivity of the new MeerKAT telescope allowed for the detection of previously unresolved diffuse emission from the lobes of these GRGs. This discovery supports the hypothesis that the prevalence of large GRGs has been underestimated in the past due to limited sensitivity.

The observable supernova rate in galaxy-galaxy lensing systems with the TESS satellite

B. W. Holwerda et al.

Summary: TESS is a new exoplanet survey satellite that aims to detect supernovae and utilize gravitational lensing to measure the Hubble constant independently. Approximately 16 Type Ia supernovae and 43 core-collapse supernovae are expected to be observable each year, with efficient detection rates at the ecliptic poles.

Deep Extragalactic VIsible Legacy Survey (DEVILS): SED fitting in the D10-COSMOS field and the evolution of the stellar mass function and SFR-M☆ relation

Jessica E. Thorne et al.

Summary: This study presents high-quality galaxy data from the DEVILS survey, showing the evolution of the galaxy stellar mass function and the SFR-M-star relation to reveal insights about star formation and metallicity evolution. The results indicate significant systematic effects on inferred stellar masses due to improvements in metallicity evolution assumptions. The combination of DEVILS measurements with values from the GAMA survey demonstrates the power of consistent treatment for galaxies at all redshifts.

Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope Detection of Hi 21 cm Emission from Star-forming Galaxies at z ≈ 1.3

Aditya Chowdhury et al.

Summary: This study conducted a 400-hour search for Hi 21 cm emission from star-forming galaxies using GMRT, resulting in a 5.0 sigma detection of the average Hi 21 cm signal from 2841 galaxies at an average redshift z approximately 1.3. The study found that the average Hi mass and Hi-to-stellar mass ratio in galaxies at this redshift were significantly higher than those in similar galaxies in the local universe. Additionally, the study stacked the 1.4 GHz continuum emission of the galaxies to obtain a median star formation rate.

MIGHTEE: are giant radio galaxies more common than we thought?

J. Delhaize et al.

Summary: Using the MeerKAT radio telescope, researchers discovered two giant radio galaxies in the COSMOS field with physical sizes of 2.4 and 2.0 Mpc. These galaxies challenge the previous assumption of underestimated prevalence of giant radio galaxies due to limited sensitivity to low surface brightness emissions.
