Gaia Early Data Release 3 Summary of the contents and survey properties

A. G. A. Brown et al.

Summary: Gaia EDR3 is the early installment of the third data release from the Gaia project, providing astrometry and photometry for 1.8 billion sources brighter than magnitude 21, along with radial velocities from Gaia DR2. The data processing precision and homogeneity have significantly improved compared to the previous version, with additional information on celestial bodies and an updated celestial reference frame.

Discovery of Transition from Marginally Stable Burning to Unstable Burning after a Superburst in Aql X-1

Zhaosheng Li et al.

Summary: This study reported the properties of observed superbursts in NS LMXBs, including the discovery of faint type I X-ray bursts and mHz quasi-periodic oscillations following the superburst. The transition from superburst to unstable burning in NS LMXBs was observed for the first time, with comparisons made to simulations for quenching time and type I X-ray burst recurrence time.

On the Impact of an Intermediate Duration X-Ray Burst on the Accretion Environment in IGR J17062-6143

Peter Bult et al.

Summary: A spectroscopic analysis of X-ray emission from IGR J17062-6143 following an intermediate duration Type I X-ray burst in June 2020 revealed a severe depression in X-ray flux for three days, possibly due to the inner accretion disk restoring itself and evolving corona. Additionally, a 3.4 keV absorption line was tentatively identified as a gravitationally redshifted line from burning ashes on the stellar surface.

Discovery of thermonuclear Type-I X-ray bursts from the X-ray binary MAXI J1807+132

A. C. Albayati et al.

Summary: MAXI J1807+132 is a low-mass X-ray binary that has been observed with three thermonuclear (Type-I) X-ray bursts, identifying it as a neutron star LMXB. The bursts show characteristics of mixed H/He fuel, did not reach the Eddington Luminosity, and have an estimated upper distance limit of 12.4 kpc.

Thermonuclear X-Ray Bursts with Late Secondary Peaks Observed from 4U 1608-52

Tolga Guver et al.

Summary: This study reports on the temporal and spectral analysis of three thermonuclear X-ray bursts observed from 4U 1608-52 by NICER during and after the 2020 outburst. It found secondary peaks in two of the bursts with different properties compared to the initial peaks, and a brighter third burst occurring at lower accretion rates. These observations challenge standard scenarios and understanding of flame spreading.

The X-Ray Bursts of XTE J1739-285: A NICER Sample

Peter Bult et al.

Summary: In this study, observations of the neutron star X-ray transient XTE J1739-285 were conducted, revealing a highly active bursting state. A total of 32 thermonuclear X-ray bursts with an average recurrence time of 2.0(-0.3)(+0.)4 were detected over a 20-day period. Analysis showed evidence of a 386.5 Hz burst oscillation candidate, contradicting a previous claim of a 1122 Hz oscillation and leading to the conclusion that the source is unlikely to have a submillisecond rotation period.
