Gaia view of a stellar sub-structure in front of the Small Magellanic Cloud

Abinaya O. Omkumar et al.

Summary: Recent observations in the eastern regions of the Small Magellanic Cloud have identified a foreground stellar sub-structure and suggested its formation due to tidal interactions, potentially related to the formation of the Magellanic Bridge. This foreground population is kinematically distinct from the main body, possibly representing a tidally stripped counterpart of the gaseous Magellanic Bridge. Further study and improved simulations are needed to understand the offset between the foreground structure and the Magellanic Bridge.

The structure of Small Magellanic Cloud star clusters

Andres E. Piatti

Summary: Observational data has shown variations in the structural parameters and internal dynamical evolution of star clusters in the Milky Way and the Large Magellanic Cloud due to differing gravitational field strengths. This study also indicates potential differential tidal effects in the star clusters of the Small Magellanic Cloud, which is significantly less massive than the Large Magellanic Cloud. Findings suggest that larger, older star clusters tend to be located in the outer regions of the SMC, while younger, less massive clusters are more elongated and found closer to the center.

The VISCACHA survey: III. Star clusters counterpart of the Magellanic Bridge and Counter-Bridge in 8D

B. Dias et al.

Summary: The study aims to identify the stellar counterparts of the Magellanic Bridge and Counter-Bridge by analyzing star clusters in the outskirts of the SMC. Through the analysis of seven clusters, the existence of the tidal counterpart of the Magellanic Bridge is confirmed, providing important constraints for models studying the interactions between the LMC, SMC, and the Milky Way.

The VMC survey - XLI. Stellar proper motions within the Small Magellanic Cloud

Florian Niederhofer et al.

Summary: This study utilized data from the VISTA survey to measure proper motions of stars within the SMC, finding that the galaxy may be experiencing stretching or stripping of its outer regions. The internal kinematics of young and old stellar populations were analyzed separately, revealing different motion patterns in different age groups.

Short-period Variability in the Globular Cluster NGC 419 and the SMC Field

C. E. Martinez-Vazquez et al.

Summary: Researchers have discovered 54 Delta Scuti (δ Sct) stars and three eclipsing binary star systems in the NGC 419 region of the Small Magellanic Cloud, with only a few of the variable stars found near the Main Sequence Turnoff (MSTO) and the rest likely belonging to the SMC field. This study provides insights into the age and distribution of Delta Scuti stars in both the cluster and field, as well as the period and amplitude characteristics of these newly detected stars. Additionally, these stars have been used to calculate distance measurements that align with previous findings.
