Black Hole Flares: Ejection of Accreted Magnetic Flux through 3D Plasmoid-mediated Reconnection

B. Ripperda et al.

Summary: This study presents the first observation of plasmoid-mediated reconnection in a 3D magnetically arrested disk through extremely high-resolution simulations. The research shows that magnetic reconnection can power flares from accreting black holes and explains certain observed features.

Kink-driven magnetic reconnection in relativistic jets: consequences for X-ray polarimetry of BL Lacs

G. Bodo et al.

Summary: Using relativistic MHD simulations, we investigated the dissipation physics of BL Lac jets, focusing on the synchrotron polarization signatures of particles accelerated by the kink instability. Both X-ray and optical emitting particles show similar degree of polarization, but exhibit different temporal evolution in polarization angle due to probing different regions within the jet.

Flares in the Galactic Centre - I. Orbiting flux tubes in magnetically arrested black hole accretion discs

O. Porth et al.

Summary: Based on 3D general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulations, this study examines a model for magnetic flux eruptions from the black hole magnetosphere. The results suggest that the erupted flux bundles can power infrared and X-ray flares, and the motion within the magnetically supported flow is significantly sub-Keplerian.

Secondary Energization in Compressing Plasmoids during Magnetic Reconnection

Hayk Hakobyan et al.

Summary: In this study, the important role of plasmoids in shaping particle energy spectra in relativistic reconnection is demonstrated. Through simulations in pair plasmas with different magnetizations, a secondary particle energization process inside compressing plasmoids is studied, revealing a linear increase in magnetic field with time leading to particle energization as a result of magnetic moment conservation. The shape of the injected power law distribution of particles is conserved with the emergence of an additional nonthermal tail at higher energies, followed by an exponential cutoff whose energy increases over time.

General relativistic MHD simulations of non-thermal flaring in Sagittarius A*

K. Chatterjee et al.

Summary: This study investigates the flare flux distributions of Sgr A* using GPU-accelerated codes, considering the effect of particle acceleration for the first time. The results suggest that non-thermal populations of electrons arising from turbulence-driven reconnection in weakly magnetized accretion flows lead to moderate NIR and X-ray flares, while fulfilling multiwavelength flux constraints.
