Investigation of γ-ray variability and glitches of PSR J1420-6048

Lupin Chun-Che Lin et al.

Summary: Through long-term monitoring data from the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, it was found that PSR J1420-6048 exhibited gamma-ray flux variation and four glitches between 2008 and 2019, with two glitches being previously unknown. The study discusses the potential contamination of results by background sources and explores whether the observed changes were caused by artificial misallocations of photons from nearby sources or by a change in emission geometry from the pulsar itself.

The impact of glitches on young pulsar rotational evolution

M. E. Lower et al.

Summary: Our study reports a timing program of 74 young pulsars observed by the Parkes 64-m radio telescope over the past decade, revealing properties of 124 glitches in 52 of these pulsars using modern Bayesian timing techniques. We discuss the implications of the results in the context of various physical models, demonstrating a near one-to-one relationship between the interglitch value of the braking index and the change in spin-down of the previous glitch divided by the interglitch time interval.

30 glitches in 18 radio pulsars

Hong-Yi Liu et al.

Summary: By studying 18 young radio pulsars using pulsar timing, we identified 30 glitches with new exponential recoveries, shedding light on the properties and implications for neutron-star physics. The findings show agreement with previous work, except for the cumulative probability distributions of the mean waiting times for certain pulsars.

Alfven Wave Mode Conversion in Pulsar Magnetospheres

Yajie Yuan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the radio emission anomaly coincident with the 2016 glitch of the Vela pulsar, suggesting it may be caused by a starquake launching Alfven waves into the magnetosphere. Through simulations of Alfven wave conversion into fast magnetosonic waves, the conversion efficiency is found to be influenced by amplitude and field line position. Further research is needed to determine whether mode conversion alone can reactivate the pulsar on a short timescale.
