Multiwavelength emission from leptonic processes in ageing galaxy bubbles

Ellis R. Owen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the evolutionary behavior and multiwavelength emission properties of bubbles around galaxies. The simulations demonstrate that as the bubbles age, their spectral properties change, with a decrease in TeV gamma-ray emission and a relatively stable radio synchrotron emission. The study also suggests that radio observations are better suited for detecting older bubbles at greater distances, providing a more comprehensive understanding of the evolutionary progression and diversity of galaxy bubble populations.

Can the Local Bubble explain the radio background?

Martin G. H. Krause et al.

Summary: Research using the ARCADE 2 balloon bolometer, along with other instruments, has detected a radio synchrotron background at frequencies below 3 GHz. This finding cannot be explained by known extragalactic radio sources or diffuse Galactic emission. The predicted spectral index of the modeled radio emission is found to be roughly consistent with the observed radio background.

Hoinga: a supernova remnant discovered in the SRG/eROSITA All-Sky Survey eRASS1

W. Becker et al.

Summary: Supernova remnants (SNRs) can be observed for about (6-15) x 10(4) years before fading into the Galactic interstellar medium, with approximately 300 known SNRs in the Milky Way to date. The discovery of a new SNR named "Hoinga" at a relatively high Galactic latitude with X-ray emission filling almost the entire remnant suggests it is a middle-aged Vela-like SNR located at a distance of about 500 pc.

Dynamics of relativistic radio jets in asymmetric environments

Patrick M. Yates-Jones et al.

Summary: The study shows that relativistic three-dimensional simulations of high-power radio sources propagating in different environments found that jets become unstable towards the end of simulations, developing typical radio morphology even with a Lorentz factor of 5. Jets propagating into denser environments have shorter lobe lengths and brighter hotspots compared to jets propagating into less dense environments. Additionally, the study confirms the observational anticorrelation between lobe length asymmetry and environment asymmetry.

Simulating the transport of relativistic electrons and magnetic fields injected by radio galaxies in the intracluster medium

F. Vazza et al.

Summary: Radio galaxies play a crucial role in seeding cosmic rays and magnetic fields in galaxy clusters. The study shows that relativistic electrons from radio galaxies can efficiently fill the intracluster medium and create a stable reservoir of fossil electrons. The late evolution of radio lobes and remnant radio galaxies is significantly affected by the dynamics of the surrounding intracluster medium, with diffusive re-acceleration coupling the evolution of relativistic particles to gas perturbations.
