Boswellic acids: privileged structures to develop lead compounds for anticancer drug discovery

Hidayat Hussain et al.

Summary: Natural boswellic acids (BAs) derived from frankincense have shown promising anticancer effects and can potentially be utilized in future cancer treatments. Semisynthetic derivatives of BAs, particularly those with cyanoenone moieties in ring A, endoperoxides, and hybrids, exhibit potent cytotoxic effects and have the potential to enhance the efficacy of other anticancer compounds. Future research should focus on the preparation of these derivatives to advance them as lead anticancer compounds.
