GUN4-mediated tetrapyrrole metabolites regulates starch biosynthesis during early seed development in rice

Ruiqing Li et al.

Summary: The study revealed that OsGUN4 is expressed both in leaves and developing seeds, and its mutation affects sucrose accumulation and transportation in leaves, as well as starch biosynthesis in developing grains. OsGUN4 plays a potential role in mediating starch biosynthesis through tetrapyrrole metabolites during early seed development.

RNA demethylation increases the yield and biomass of rice and potato plants in field trials

Qiong Yu et al.

Summary: The transgenic expression of human RNA demethylase FTO in rice and potato significantly increased grain yield and biomass, stimulated root meristem cell proliferation and tiller bud formation, and improved photosynthetic efficiency and drought tolerance. FTO mediates substantial m(6)A demethylation in plant RNA, leading to chromatin openness and transcriptional activation. Modulation of plant RNA m(6)A methylation is a promising strategy for improving plant growth and crop yield.

The B3 domain-containing transcription factor ZmABI19 coordinates expression of key factors required for maize seed development and grain filling

Tao Yang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that ZmABI19 functions as a key transcription factor in regulating maize grain filling, with mutations affecting endosperm and embryo development, resulting in opaque and reduced kernels. ZmABI19 directly regulates multiple important grain filling TFs and plant phytohormone signal transduction, highlighting its role in coordinating early endosperm and embryo development.
